What about the others?

We end up just picking up sushi from this convenience store across the street and eat in the guys’ room. I expect it to be gross, but it’s not. Honestly, it’s some of the best sushi I’ve ever eaten, and now I realize that North America really needs to step up their sushi game if convenience store sushi in Japan is better than the fancy restaurant sushi in the US.

The guys tell me about their day. They’ve mostly just been following Sota around. There is no need to follow the wife anymore, because we all believe that she is innocent. I never thought she was guilty and I’m glad to know that my gut instinct was right.

Tristan spent the day doing background checks on Sota and a few of his close friends. On the surface, everything looks good. Almost too good. He has pretty much hit a dead end, which frustrates him, but I know he will figure it out.

A little after nine that night, there is a knock on the door. Cam gets up to open the door. All the guys are in Tristan and Cam’s room. We decided to watch some Japanese TV show that is on. I have no idea what they’re saying, because it’s in Japanese, but I can pick up a lot from just their expressions and body movements.

“Zara,” Cam says.

I look over and see Zach walk into the room. One of the guys shuts off the TV, which makes me sad. I will probably never know if the main character and her crush get together or not. Maybe it’s best to not know. I can imagine my own future for them.

“I followed Sota tonight. He got a phone call at eight o’clock,” Zach says. “He left his house then and went to a pay phone a few blocks away from his house to make a phone call. They’re going to be moving a batch of weapons this Friday. You were right.”

I sit up straighter. “So what does this mean? What are we doing?”

“You guys are going to stay here and help us get more information, but it’s too dangerous for you to be following Sota,” Zach says. “Some graduates from Spy School just arrived and they’re going to be doing the more dangerous stuff. I know you guys want to help, but I think you need more training before you’re ready.”

I nod. “It’s okay. I understand. I mean, I’ve been at Spy School a week. I’m not ready. But the guys have been training for this their whole life.”

Zach looks at the guys. “Only if you are with a graduate. And somebody will have to stay with Zara at all times. I don’t want her alone.”

All the guys immediately start talking, volunteering to stay with me.

“Tristan, you’re staying with Zara. I’m going to have you work with one of the graduates here. He’s an amazing hacker and I think you could learn a lot from him,” Zach says, and then looks at me.
